Review My Favorites Film
1. Bumblebee 2018
After years of being tortured with the Transformers series from Michael Bay, Paramount Picture finally lifted the torment by assigning Travis Knight as a director in charge of Bumblebee. A prequel that will tell Bumblebee's actions before Optimus Prime's presence on Earth.
That Robot Named Bumblebee
The story of Bumblebee originated from planet Cybertron where the Autobots rebels fought fiercely with the Decepticons. Autobots leader, Optimus Prime commissioned B-127 a.k.a Bumblebee to planet Earth to build headquarters for the Autobots.
In 1987 the B-127 finally landed on earth and had to face Jack Burns (John Cena), sector agent 7. Jack Burns and his team chased B-127 until finally the robot Decepticons appeared, Blitzwing. Blitzwing immediately fought with B-127 and asked where the location of Optimus Prime was.
B-127 managed to escape even though it had to be badly damaged and lost its voice. In a condition of almost losing consciousness he also adapted the VW Beetle before finally totally dying. A teenager named Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), a music lover and car who will celebrate his 18th birthday appears.
Charlie is still sad to lose his father and he really wants a car on his birthday. Charlie went to the used goods shop and found a dusty yellow VW Beetle. Destiny brought Charlie to meet Bumblebee who was wounded by the war.
In the end Charlie realized, his first car was not an ordinary yellow VW but an alien robot.
*The relationship between the characters in Bumblebee is very well illustrated, although it still feels staggering. Especially for matters of acting skills and chemistry between characters.
The character of Charlie, played by Hailee Steinfeld, looks quite okay even though it can actually be further developed. Meanwhile, the character of Jack Burns, played by John Cena, managed to make our eyes runny because of eye pain. The studio should not have John Cena as an important character, because Cena's acting ability still looks like a cheap version of Dwayne Johnson. To be honest, we did like Cena's voice in Ferdinand, but not with her acting.
Another strength of the Bumblebee film lies in the nostalgic element of thick 80s pop culture. When else can you see Bumblebee with the look of the VW Beetle and listen to the song "Never Gonna Give You Up" from Rick Astley and "Take on Me" from a-ha.
Final conclusion
Bumblebee succeeded in removing all potential Transformers which should have been used by Michael Bay. You could say Bumblebee is the savior of the Transformers series that we are waiting for.
2. Keluarga Cemara
The story is still like Family Cemara that emerged since the 1970s. About a small family that has to survive after the backbone of their family becomes poor. They had to move house and the children helped work.
Beginning with light scenes, slowly the Cemara Family story began to arouse emotions. Some scenes make the audience feel touched, for example when Abah and Emak talk that they are really bankrupt. Ringgo and Nirina Zubir's acting deserves a thumbs up.
They play flexibly so they are comfortably witnessed. Likewise with Zara JKT 48 who became Euis and Widuri Princess who played little Ara.
Not only presenting sadness, Family Cemara, which had been popular in soap opera format from 1996 to 2004, also made laughter and happiness. In addition to entertaining humorous scenes, the presence of eccentric female characters played by Asri Welas also stole attention. Innocence Ara also sometimes becomes its own entertainment.
The light story of Family Cemara is becoming increasingly interesting when there are many meaningful messages throughout the film. This film teaches how important artists are to a family.
